The Seven Laces of Devon by Carol McFadzean

Historical lace expert, Carol McFadzean, will be visiting Whimple on 27th September to give a talk about East Devon lace. Carol started lacemaking in 1985 and has exhibited her work internationally. She was Chair of Devon Lace Teachers for 10 years, and between 2004 -2010 represented the UK as a member of the Executive Committee of The International Bobbin and Needle Lace Organisation – for the final four of those years as President. She has written several books on the subject including Devon Trolly Lace – Patterns and Lace for Queen Victoria, Mrs Treadwin Victorian Lacemaker Designer and Historian, Sidmouth’s Lace, and Devon Trolly Lace. Recently she was on the BBC2 TV programme Villages by the Sea talking about Queen Victoria’s wedding lace, and she had a display of some of her 3000 lace bobbins at RAMM in 2023. It promises to be a fascinating evening so do come along, and bring with you any lace that you would like Carol to identify.
