Exeter’s historic Underground Passages have been 3D laser scanned, giving a fascinating insight into what lies beneath the surface of the city’s streets.
A short animation – made by Benchmark Surveys – shows just where the passages are in relation to their above-ground locations.
Benchmark recently carried out the survey using high-tech 3D lasers. The resulting animation looks set to be used at some point in the near future in the Passages Visitor Centre.
The Passages were originally designed to transport clean drinking water from natural springs into the heart of the city. Today the vaulted tunnels help bring history to life.
Stretching beneath Exeter High Street, the labyrinth of passages echo stories of wars, sieges, and pestilence over the centuries, holding visitors captive with their raw and profound history.
