A major lorry fire caused long delays on the M5 near Exeter yesterday.

The blaze broke out just after midday on the northbound carriageway between Junctions 30 and 29.

Fire crews from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue tackled the flames, which were visible for miles and forced the motorway to close for several hours.

Emergency services say the lorry was carrying a mixed load, making the fire difficult to control. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported.

The affected stretch of road remains under inspection for heat damage, and drivers are being urged to check travel updates before setting off.
