Councillors from various parties will debate the future of Exeter’s Northbrook swimming pool at a special scrutiny committee meeting. A petition was presented at the Guildhall on Tuesday, with organisers given the chance to speak on the facility’s future.
Councillors from different parties will discuss the future of Exeter’s Northbrook swimming pool at a special meeting of the council’s scrutiny committee.
On Tuesday a petition was presented to council during a meeting at the Guildhall and organisers were given an opportunity to make representations about the future of the facility.
Following the debate councillors unanimously supported a recommendation to take the matter to scrutiny on Monday 23 June, ahead of the issue being discussed by members of the executive on Tuesday 24 June.
This will allow scrutiny members to examine the matter and make any recommendations they wish to be considered.
Cllr Duncan Wood, Lead Councillor for Leisure Services and Healthy Living, said: “I welcome the decision to send the matter to scrutiny. This will allow a proper discussion of all the issues when members are in possession of all the facts.
“Scrutiny will have the opportunity to make recommendations to executive if it chooses to do so. The executive will then need to consider the results of the comprehensive consultation process that has taken place, alongside key income and expenditure data, before making a decision.”
