Fraudsters pretending to be from local councils have emailed residents to tell them that they have outstanding Council Tax account payments, and to follow a link to proceed to payment.
Stay safe, vigilant, and keep an eye out for tell-tale signs of scams like urgent or threatening language, non-official email addresses or spelling and grammar issues. If an email appears to be suspicious, please don't click on any links or attachments, or provide personal information in response.
If East Devon District Council needs to send emails to residents that have fallen into arrears, these would be sent from an official @eastdevon.gov.uk email address and any links would be on the https://eastdevon.gov.uk/ website.
Contact the Council if a scammer impersonates the council and report the scam to Action Fraud at 0300 123 2040 (visit the link in the comments for more information).
