East Devon District Council have concluded its consultation on a draft economic strategy for 20 24 to 20 29, engaging with stakeholders through workshops and an online survey. This marks a significant step forward in shaping the district's economic future.
East Devon District Council (EDDC) recently concluded its consultation on a draft economic strategy for 2024-2029, marking a significant step forward in shaping the district's economic future.
The consultation engaged various stakeholders through a series of workshops with local employers, representative groups, voluntary and community organisations, as well as an online survey.
Cllr Matt Hall, East Devon District Council’s Portfolio Holder for the Economy, expressed his gratitude to all who contributed to the development of the Economic Development Strategy, emphasising its importance in guiding the district for the next five years. He said:
"We really appreciate the input from all participants in shaping the Economic Development Strategy for East Devon. Your feedback is invaluable in helping us address the needs and aspirations of our local businesses and communities.
"We have carefully considered all the views expressed, which will inform the updated version of the Strategy as it is developed."
Key feedback received during the consultation period includes:
- Strong endorsement of the proposed approach, which will guide resource allocation, workspace provisions, social initiatives, industrial strategies, and efforts towards achieving net-zero carbon emissions.
- A clear demand for enhanced public transport and connectivity across the district, particularly between residential areas and places of work.
- Identification of exploring the feasibility of establishing small start-up units on vacant Council-owned land as a critical action to address workspace challenges.
- Support for East Devon District Council's proposed initiatives to promote clean growth, including the development of a sustainable aviation cluster centred around Exeter Airport, offering decarbonisation grant funding to organisations in most need, and facilitating the upskilling of residents for careers related to clean growth, such as retrofitting.
The final draft of the Economic Development Strategy will be presented to EDDC’s Overview Committee on the 30th May, followed by a report to Cabinet on the 10th July.
