The Lord Mayor of Exeter Cllr Kevin Mitchell led a minute’s silence to mark 80 years since Victory in Europe as events to make the anniversary were held across the city.
The Lord Mayor led veterans and guests attending the War Memorial in Northernhay Gardens to lay a wreath and take part in a minute's silence.
Exeter’s historic Guildhall was decked out in the Union flag and bunting in scenes reminiscent of those held in the city to mark the end of the Second World War in Europe in 1945.
A talk about how Exeter marked VE Day and the period afterwards was led by Exeter Red Coat Jon Bell at the Guildhall.
It explored how Exeter marked the end of war in Europe and the days of renewal that followed. Proceeds raised will be donated to FORCE Cancer Charity, the Lord Mayor’s charity.
At Exeter Leisure’s Isca Centre, off Summer Lane, 80th anniversary celebrations will see the facility decked out in the Union Flag bunting and a special £5 cream tea offer will be available between 1pm and 5pm on Thursday 8 May.
