The Minor Injuries Unit (MIU) service at Exmouth Community Hospital is set to open 7 days a week having recovered staffing levels.
Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust took over the service just under a year ago and have worked hard to recruit and train the staff needed to provide a full seven-day service.
Fiona Heckles, Clinical Matron for Exmouth MIU said, “We’re really grateful to the whole team who have worked really hard over the past year to maintain a consistent service despite the challenges to staffing.
We’re proud to now be able to increase the opening hours to open 8am – 8pm, seven 7 days a week to support the local community”.
The MIU provides a high-quality, easily accessible alternative service to the Emergency Department (ED).
The service is delivered by a team of highly trained specialist nurses and paramedics that can see and treat a wide-range of conditions, such as minor musculoskeletal injuries, cuts, fractures, burns, head and eye injuries, bites, and stings, minor infections and trauma that are not life-threatening.
Further details on the services available at Royal Devon MIU’s and walk in centres can be found on the Royal Devon Trust website.
