Exmouth’s Minor Injuries Unit is set to extend its opening hours following a successful recruitment campaign, a move warmly welcomed by local MP David Reed. The unit will now operate six days a week from 8am to 8pm, starting today, with plans to expand to seven days a week by early 2025.
The announcement follows months of concern from residents and local leaders over the restricted opening hours of the MIU, which many felt was limiting access to essential healthcare services in the area. MP David Reed, who has been liaising with the MIU to address the issue, shared his delight at the outcome, saying, “This is an encouraging step forward for Exmouth. I’ve been incredibly concerned for some time now about the limited hours of our MIU and have worked closely with the team to find a solution. Thanks to a focused recruitment drive, we are now able to significantly improve access to care for residents.”
The expanded hours aim to alleviate pressure on other healthcare services in the region, providing timely care for minor injuries such as fractures, sprains, and cuts. The MP also emphasized that while this development marks significant progress, more work remains to ensure healthcare in the area meets the needs of the growing community.
“This is an encouraging start, but there is still more work to be done to ensure we have high-quality, accessible healthcare for everyone in Exmouth and beyond,” David Reed added.
