At 16.24 on Wednesday, H.M. Coastguard requested the launch of the Exmouth RNLI lifeboat following a call from two individuals who had found themselves cut-off by the tide near Straight Point.
The Exmouth RNLI ILB D-805 George Bearman II and three volunteer crew launched within 10 minutes and set out to assist.
An RNLI Lifeguard on the rescue jetski also headed to the location and was able to provide sufficient assistance to the two to enable them to safely self-recover to the shoreline. Our ILB crew stood by as safety cover until the individuals were safe and were then stood down by H.M. Coastguard.
The UK and Ireland have some of the biggest tidal ranges in the world. To avoid getting cut off by the tide:
- Before you head out, make sure it's safe. Check the tide tables.
- While you're out, be aware of your surroundings and the tide's direction.
