At 3:55pm on Monday, Exmouth RNLI’s D-class lifeboat, D-805 George Bearman II, launched with three volunteer crew after reports of a paddleboarder in difficulty east of Budleigh Salterton beach. They arrived at the scene at 4:20pm to assess the situation.
Bank Holiday Monday, 26th May, at 3.48pm, Exmouth RNLI received a tasking request from the National Maritime Operations Centre.
Concerns had been raised about a paddleboarder being in difficulty east of Budleigh Salterton beach. At 3.55pm, the Exmouth RNLI's D-class lifeboat - D-805 George Bearman II - was launched with three volunteer crew members on board. They made their way to the scene, arriving at 4.20pm.
Following the crew's engagement with other water users in the area the NMOC stood the Exmouth RNLI crew down at 4.37pm, believing all water users to be accounted for.
Challenging tides and windy conditions meant that the crew's journey back to the station was a slow one, eventually arriving at 5.24pm.
In this case, the call out was a false alarm with good intent, but the volunteer crew of Exmouth RNLI will always be ready to respond when the pager goes. Our advice is always that if you have any concerns regarding someone in the water, call 999 and ask for the coastguard.
