ExmouthDAB Ltd, operated by the local radio station DevonAir Radio, has been officially awarded the small-scale DAB multiplex licence for Exmouth, Dawlish, and surrounding communities by Ofcom. This milestone will enable DevonAir to expand its digital presence while continuing its successful FM service.
he new digital multiplex will deliver robust coverage to over 70,000 listeners, providing access to DevonAir’s signature local content including community news, travel updates, music, and locally-focused advertising. As part of the launch, DevonAir will also introduce DevonAir Gold, its dedicated digital service, to the new platform.
Ofcom praised ExmouthDAB for its readiness to launch the service within the 18-month timeframe and highlighted its collaborative approach with other broadcasters, including Access All Aerials – a pioneering station that empowers disabled people by giving them a voice on the airwaves.
“This is a huge moment for us,” said Station Manager Andy Green. “Our team of presenters and volunteers work incredibly hard, and this licence will allow their efforts to reach an even larger audience. It’s also fantastic news for our advertisers and sponsors, who will now benefit from a much wider reach.”
The award highlights DevonAir’s growing presence in local media and underscores its commitment to staying truly local while embracing the future of digital broadcasting.
