Have your say on the future of East Devon's green wedges

The Local Plan is used to make planning decisions in East Devon, so it is vital that residents let EDDC know what they think of the proposals. The consultation closes at 5pm on Thursday 27th June. To share your thoughts go to eastdevon.gov.uk/local-plan

Time is running out for residents to share their thoughts on the future of East Devon’s green wedges in the Further Local Plan consultation.

The Local Plan is the key document used to make planning decisions in East Devon, so it is vital that residents let East Devon District Council (EDDC) know what they think of the proposals.

The consultation launched on 16 May 2024, and residents have until 5pm on Thursday, 27 June 2024 to share their thoughts online at https://eastdevon.gov.uk/local-plan.

Green wedges maintain the separation between towns and villages that are located close together, helping them retain their individual identity. A few minor changes to the green wedges are proposed in the consultation and some development may also need to be accommodated in these areas to meet housing needs. Green Wedges are proposed between several of East Devon's towns and adjoining villages.

Maps of the proposals are available in the green wedges section of the Further Local Plan consultation website.

Another consultation topic is the revised Coastal Preservation Area boundary, which seeks to protect the natural coastline from inappropriate development.

The boundaries of the Clyst Valley Regional Park are being consulted on by EDDC too. The Regional Park links new developments, such as Cranbrook, with Exeter and neighbouring villages, with a network of walking and cycling routes through green spaces.

Consultation feedback will help inform and refine the Local Plan as it progresses to a final draft, which EDDC hopes to consult on towards the end of 2024. It will then be subject to a public examination by a government-appointed planning inspector.
