Following an extensive refurbishment project and an upgrade to the latest radiology equipment, X-ray services are returning to Honiton Hospital on Monday 7 July, with the MIU (minor injuries unit) reopening on Saturday 5 July.

The Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (the Royal Devon) began improvement works in February this year and both the X-ray service and MIU at Honiton were relocated to Ottery St Mary Hospital, to ensure local people still had access to these important services.

The updated X-ray room at Honiton will provide a more positive experience for patients and staff, and the new equipment will provide improved higher-quality images and help to reduce radiation exposure dosage. It will also provide a key support to the MIU and bring improvements in efficiency and capacity.

Phil Luke, Royal Devon Director of Operations and Transformation, said, “This improved space, with its new equipment, will ensure the service continues to provide local minor injuries services to the people of Honiton and the surrounding areas. This in turn will help ensure our emergency department in Exeter is available to treat more serious emergencies when people need it most.”

The temporary MIU at Ottery St Mary will close at 8pm on Thursday 3 July. The MIU at Honiton Hospital will then reopen on Saturday 5 July, where it will be available seven days a week, 8am to 8pm.

Once the X-ray service is reopened at Honiton on Monday 7 July, it will be available at the following times:

  • Monday: 9am - 5pm
  • Tuesday: 9am - 12:30pm
  • Wednesday: 9am - 1pm
  • Thursday: 1:30 - 5pm
  • Friday: 9am - 5pm

Ottery St Mary will also continue to provide X-ray services on Tuesday afternoons, alongside additional ad hoc sessions.

Musculoskeletal (MSK) services that were temporarily moved to Honiton Hospital during this time will return to Ottery St Mary Hospital on Friday 4 July. Care teams are contacting patients directly if this impacts their appointments.
