One of Hospiscare’s new-look stores opened its doors in Budleigh Salterton
Located on Budleigh’s High Street, the shop is the latest of the charity’s premises to adopt its fresh new style – a large, open-plan space, with an in-store donation station for receiving and sorting donated goods.
All purchases help Hospiscare support more than 2,000 terminally ill patients and their families every year across Exeter, central and east Devon.
With an extensive range of adult and children’s clothing, shoes and accessories; books, music, films, games and toys; homeware and soft furnishings, the new store has opened just in time for purchasing unique festive gifts.
Hospiscare Shops Development Manager, Grace Baker, said: “It’s lovely to be on the High Street in Budleigh Salterton, and in our first week we’ve had lots of people through the door positively commenting on our fresh new open-plan look.
“Our customers can choose from an incredible stock of pre-loved and new goods, knowing every purchase will help support vital end-of-life care in their community.”
It costs around £10 million a year to provide Hospiscare’s specialist end-of-life care. With just 24 per cent of its funding coming from the NHS, the charity depends on the support of the community, through fundraising and volunteering, to provide this care at no cost to its patients and their families.
Hospiscare is calling for community help to support the new Budleigh Salterton venture – through donations of pre-loved quality items or volunteering at the store.
Grace added: “If you have a few hours a week to spare, we’d love to hear from you. Volunteers help us sort and prepare donations, serve customers, and assist with window displays. All training is provided.
“Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, while giving back to your community.”
