New sewer in Exmouth is now in the ground

Over the last few weeks, South West Water have been providing updates about the work they have been doing in Exmouth to replace an 800-metre section of sewer from Plumb Park housing estate to Maer Lane, just outside the treatment works.

The company are pleased to say, despite the incredibly wet start to the year, all the new pipework is now in the ground. They are now turning their attention to relining the remaining section of sewer into the treatment works. This process involves installing a reinforced liner within the existing main. They are doing this because the section of pipe is in a better condition to what we are replacing and lining it will offer the same amount of resilience as laying a new pipe but without the added disruption.

Once the lining work has been completed this week, we’ll then be carrying out pressure testing. This is to confirm the new pipework is ready to transport wastewater for treatment for many years to come.

Although the wet weather has made ground conditions very difficult, steady progress continues to be made by our teams. We aim to have the relining completed by the end of this week, so testing and commissioning can continue into next week.
