OFSTED has recently released its inspection findings for Exmouth Community College following a two-day assessment earlier this year.
While the school retains a "requires improvement" rating overall, it received a positive "good" grade for personal development, leadership and management, as well as sixth form provision. However, it was marked as "requires improvement" for the quality of education and behaviour and attitudes.
Areas identified for improvement include curriculum delivery, ongoing support for pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEND), and the standard of pupil behaviour. Despite these challenges, the report also highlighted several strengths, such as the broad range of extra-curricular activities and the school's efforts in nurturing students' mental health.
Particularly noteworthy was the praise for the Sixth Form provision, with inspectors commending the ambitious programs of study and the school's dedication to supporting students through their courses. The report also acknowledged the positive impact of recent changes, including raised expectations for pupil behaviour and thorough evaluation by school leaders.
Headteacher Tom Inman expressed optimism about the ongoing efforts to foster a more positive school culture, with support from staff, parents, and students. He emphasised the school's commitment to transparency and continuous improvement, echoing the sentiment that the OFSTED report accurately reflects both areas for growth and existing strengths.
Chair of Governors, Jason Hill, echoed these sentiments, noting that the inspection team recognized the school's strengths and areas for development, which align with existing priorities. He extended gratitude to the school community for their support during the inspection process and commended OFSTED for their professional and fair conduct throughout.
