At Maer Road Car Park, proposed improvements to encourage responsible tourism include installing a freshwater tap, as well as disposal points for shower, dishwater, and chemical toilet waste.
These facilities will offer added convenience for overnight visitors, as well as addressing concerns relating to the inappropriate disposal of wastewater by some visitors. New parking bay markings at Queen’s Drive Echelon will help visitors maintain a safe distance between vehicles when parking overnight.
The installation of these improvements will be funded by existing Capital funding, with the ongoing management and maintenance costs met through an increase to the overnight parking charge, which will rise from £11 to £20 per night. £5 from each overnight stay will be directly allocated to motorhome and tourism related enforcement activity, which will include car parking and anti-social behaviour.
A RingGo only payments trial for overnight parking sessions will limit overnight stays to two nights and ensure that vehicles cannot return again to either location within 72 hours. Daytime parking sessions will not be affected.
Involving residents, visitors, and local organisations in the changes to overnight motorhome stopovers is important to EDDC, and an engagement timeline can be found below:
