Record numbers of visitors flock to East Devon’s top wildlife haven

Easter saw unprecedented numbers of visits to East Devon’s premier wildlife destination, Seaton Wetlands.

More than 7000 visits were recorded during the 2024 Easter holidays, a significant increase from the same period for 2023, estimated at less than 5000.

Cllr Geoff Jung, East Devon District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Coast, Country and Environment, said:

Recent data proves that this nature reserve is highly valued by people living nearby and people on holiday.

Nature is important to visitors and it’s very important to us too. That’s why we continue to support the site, providing  access to all. By bringing visitors to the area, it’s an important contributor to the local economy as well.

Jenny Nunn, Chief Executive, Seaton Tramway, said:

Together, Seaton Tramway and Seaton Wetlands are a wonderful attraction for visitors.

Having the Wetlands on our doorstep means Tramway visitors can alight at the dedicated stop for Seaton Wetlands. We’re delighted to see around 1000 visits to the nature reserve from our tram halt, with numbers up on last year despite the very wet weather.
