The incident was reported shortly before 2pm on Saturday, June 7. Crews from South West Water are currently on-site working to determine the cause of the issue, which triggered an alert from the station's monitoring system.
According to the South West Water website, the storm overflow at Maer Road is currently marked as "activated," indicated by a purple pin on their live map. This status means the overflow is actively discharging. Once the discharge ends, the pin will change to yellow with an exclamation mark, signaling a recorded spill within the past 24 hours.
A spokesperson for South West Water said:
"This overflow is currently activated. Our teams are investigating to determine why the monitor has been triggered and are taking necessary action, such as unblocking pipes. Once the overflow stops spilling, the pin will turn yellow with an exclamation mark to indicate a recorded spill in the last 24 hours."
Despite the ongoing investigation, Exmouth Beach currently remains open to the public.
