Sidmouth is seeking nominations for exemplary residents as part of an annual award.
The Sidmouth Citizen of the Year Award, itself celebrating its 40th year, is now accepting nominations through to the start of February.
Last year’s winner was Carla Scott, who was recognised for her six years of organising and running the Stowford Community Centre Christmas lunch.
The awards, an initiative run by Sidmouth Town Council and Sidmouth Rotary Club, provide a chance for residents to recognise one of their own, especially the unsung heroes who put others first and make a difference in the community.
“The 2025 award nominations can include anyone who has made a significant contribution to the local community during the year,” said awards co-ordinator Robin Butler.
“The nominee could be someone who works for a charity or community group, or an individual who acts on their own behalf.”
Mr Butler asked for nominations to include the name of the individual being put forward for the award, and reasons why they are being nominated, plus contact details of the person submitting the nomination.
He asked for residents to send entries by email to svcoty2025@gmail.com, no later than Sunday 1 February.
The Citizen of the Year Awards nominations begin as the town’s Rotary Club makes its final push for its Christmas Appeal.
The group, which has been delivering Christmas gifts and food hampers to the likes of elderly and vulnerable residents since 2021, believes it can outdo its huge efforts from last year.
Councillor Mike Goodman (Conservative, Sidmouth Sidford) said the group delivered 1,300 presents and 60 hampers in 2024.
“This year, though, we’re taking on more and are hoping to deliver 120-130 hampers and 1,400 presents to people in need across Sidmouth, including the elderly,” he said.
“The people of Sidmouth are just fantastic and we had lots of people involved last year who we hope will help again, and more.”
