Sidmouth Students Quiz Police on Drink Driving Risks

Community police officers visited Sidmouth College to speak with performing arts students about the realities and consequences of drink driving.

The session supported year 10 students studying the hard-hitting play Too Much Punch for Judy. During the workshop, students questioned officers about their roles and experiences responding to alcohol-related road incidents.

Officers spoke about the legal consequences of drink driving, the impact on families, and the realities faced by emergency services attending collisions. Staff said the session gave students valuable insight and strengthened their understanding of the play’s themes.

The workshop reflects Sidmouth College’s approach to drama, which focuses on practical performance experience alongside developing confidence, collaboration and critical thinking. The vocational performing arts course encourages students to explore real-world contexts while building skills that support future study and careers.

Mr Alex Evans, Headteacher at Sidmouth College, said:

“We are very grateful to the officers for giving their time to speak with our students. It was a valuable opportunity for students to deepen their understanding of the issues they are exploring in their studies and to learn from real-life experiences.”
