The gas emergency and pipeline service is carrying out two projects – one in the Fore Street, Heavitree area and the other on Western Way.
The gas emergency and pipeline service has worked with Devon County Council to plan both projects, which start on 21 July.
The work in the Fore Street involves:
Phase 1 (21 July – 15 August)
- A road closure on Magdalen Road, at its junction of Fore Street, with Fore Street closed, between the junctions of Magdalen Road and Barrack Road (21 July – 15 August)
- A directional closure on Fore Street, between the junctions of Magdalen Road and Barrack Road (1 – 15 August)
- No left turn on Polsloe Road (21 July – 15 August)
- A lane closure on Heavitree Road (21 July – 15 August)
Phase 2 will continue after the planned women’s rugby event from 15 September.
The work on Western Way will be ongoing until 1 August and a lane closure will be in place throughout the two week project.

“These works are essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport hydrogen and biomethane, so we can all play our part in a green future.
“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across Exeter. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.
“We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future. We’ll have a team of gas engineers on site throughout the project to make sure our work is completed as safely and as quickly as possible while keeping disruption to a minimum.”
