Teignbridge marks VE Day 80

There’s not long left until we celebrate and commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day on Thursday 8 May.

There are lots of events taking place across Teignbridge to mark the day:

In Teignmouth:

• 9am - Join the Mayor for a shared moment of celebration whilst the flag is raised in the Triangle.

• 11am – Children from OLSP and Teignmouth Primary School will be performing songs in the Triangle including the Nation Anthem.

• 2pm-5.30pm - Free cream teas at Bitton House with live entertainment. Tickets are limited, reserve your place.- https://orlo.uk/OZZpg

• 9.30pm - Lighting of the Beacon with the Mayor of Teignmouth at the War Memorial, Teignmouth.

In Newton Abbot:

• 10.50am – Wreath laying will take place at the War Memorial.

• 12noon – The Town Crier will deliver the Proclamation at St Leonards Tower.

• 6.30pm - Bell Ringing at St Leonards Clock Tower and Highweek Church.

• 9.30pm – Beacon Lighting – Highweek, Wolborough and Buckland sites. Follow Newton Abbot Town Council for updates.

In Dawlish:

• 9am - The VE Day flag will be raised together with the reading of the VE Day Proclamation by the Dawlish Town Crier. This is open to the public and will take place at the bandstand in Dawlish.

• 9pm - Reading of the ‘Tribute’ by the Dawlish Town Crier and lighting of the VE Day 80 Beacon at the Bandstand.
