A new petition has been launched on Change.org, campaigning to improve road safety on St. MaryChurch Road to prevent further accidents.
The petition has been signed by more than 140 people in less than 24 hours, showing the strength of local support for enhanced safety measures on the road, where four people were injured in a three-vehicle crash on Tuesday.
Matt Redmond, who started the petition, writes: “We deserve to travel without fear, without constantly worrying about the next accident. Over the past 18 months, St. MaryChurch Road has witnessed more than 20 accidents, including a tragic fatality. This alarming statistic is a sobering indicator of how severe the situation is and highlights the urgency for a comprehensive review and strategic changes.”
Tracy Walton, a supporter of Matt’s petition, adds: “I use this road every day. Sometimes I go out of my way to avoid it by going through Daccombe which takes a little longer but I feel safer. The speed limit needs to be seriously reduced as I often tuck my wing mirror in on this road!”
