Bathing water quality has been rated 'excellent' at 13 of the 15 sites assessed in Torbay, and 'good' at the other two, based on the latest classifications by the Environment Agency for 2025.

The 2025 classifications for designated bathing waters in England have just been published by the Government.

The 'excellent' sites are Maidencombe, Watcombe, Oddicombe, Babbacombe, Anstey's Cove, Meadfoot, Beacon Cove, Torre Abbey, Hollicombe, Preston Sands, Broadsands, Breakwater Beach and St Mary's Bay.

The 'good' ratings are at Paignton Sands, down from its first ever rating of 'excellent' last year, and Goodrington.

The Environment Agency closely monitors beaches and inland waterways that are designated for bathing to monitor standards.
