In a touching homage to the beloved Fred Tooley, the generous sum of £2,569.40, originally earmarked for constructing a roof on the Lido and entrusted to the care of Teignmouth Town Council, will now be directed to benefit two local charities.
Understanding that the funds represent only a portion of the total cost required for the project, Teignmouth Town Council reached out to the Tooley family to determine a more impactful use of the money. In response, the family has graciously chosen two deserving charities: Teignmouth Swimming Club and Teignmouth Beach Surf Life Saving Club. Each organization, both of whom are instrumental in promoting water safety and fostering a love for aquatic activities, will receive £1,284.70 to support their invaluable contributions to the community.
“We are grateful to the local historian, Viv Wilson MBE, for her assistance in coordinating with the Tooley family,” said a spokesperson for the council. “This charitable act not only honours Fred Tooley’s memory but also strengthens the spirit of community and support that he so passionately championed.”
The council and the community extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Tooley family for their generosity and to all involved in making this meaningful contribution possible.
