Paignton Zoo Futures Secured

Wild Planet Trust announced at the beginning of Autumn that it was seeking investment to secure the future of both Paignton and Newquay Zoo's. They have announced that Libéma, a Dutch leisure company, will officially be taking ownership of both zoos as of 1 January 2026.

This transfer marks Libéma’s first venture into the UK, and they are genuinely excited about the opportunity.

Libéma have an extensive portfolio of commercially successful attractions across the Netherlands, including hands-on experience with zoo operations. They are the owners of Safaripark Beekse Bergen, the country’s most visited wildlife attraction and resort, along with three other zoos: ZooParc Overloon, Eindhoven Zoo and AquaZoo Leeuwarden.

This transfer guarantees the long-term future, meaning that vital conservation, education and breeding programmes can flourish for many years to come. Libéma shares Wild Planet Trust’s dedication to animal welfare and conservation, backing 30 conservation initiatives worldwide through Stichting Wildlife.

Wild Planet Trust will continue as a separate charity focused on conservation work and is already exploring opportunities to collaborate with Libéma on future conservation projects.
