The organisers of the long-standing and popular Teignmouth Carnival have announced the "difficult decision" to cancel this year's event, originally scheduled for the last week of July.
The carnival committee cited several reasons for the cancellation, including financial constraints and concerns about policing. They expressed hope that the carnival will return next year. The event has been a significant part of the seaside town's celebrations for many decades.
In a statement on its website, the Teignmouth Carnival Committee said: "As supporters of Teignmouth Carnival, I wanted to let you know that this year’s carnival has been postponed until 2025. Some of the reasons for this are:
- Financial implications
- Stricter deadlines being imposed
- Policing concerns
- Resources
"Can I take this opportunity to thank you all for your continued support of Teignmouth Carnival and the committee. Please be in no doubt that this has been a very difficult decision to make, which in the end was taken out of our hands."
