A site consisting of six traveller pitches in Liverton has been granted approval by the Teignbridge Council’s planning committee.
The committee approved a retrospective application for the site at Higher Ingsdon Quarry, allowing the six existing caravan pitches to remain.
Planning officer Gary Crawford informed councillors that the site is located in open countryside, about a 20-minute walk from Blackpool Primary School in Liverton. The site is not visible from any public roads. All six pitches are currently occupied, and with the district lacking a five-year supply of traveller pitches, approval was recommended.
Resident Jess Hodge, whose partner has lived on the site for many years, spoke on behalf of the residents. She highlighted the lack of objections to the site, noting that this is unusual. Hodge also emphasised the positive contribution of the residents to the local community, mentioning that one resident even built a play park for the children, creating a "lovely little community."
Councillors ultimately voted in favour of the application, securing the residents' homes.
